After taking his first field trip to Milwaukee with his drama students, Vic Passante learned there was nothing he could do in the confines of a classroom which could match the experience his students received from seeing a professional company perform. He expanded his field trips to plays to include complementary experiences at art museums, ballets, and concerts.
In 1987, Vic Passante was asked to be part of a Wisconsin schools arts initiative. When he talked about one of his Chicago trips at a presentation at the conference, he was surprised with the positive reaction. He had been offering similar trips for twelve years and assumed that other teachers would draw connections between, say the Monet exhibit at the Art Institute and Phantom of the Opera at the Auditorium Theatre. He was shocked that other teachers didn't connect the arts for their students. Shocked and excited about the opportunity to create a business which might generate those connections for them.
Confettico was born. For twenty years, Confettico organized trips in the arts for nearly one hundred Wisconsin high schools and for hundreds of adults. Annual trips to Milwaukee, Chicago and Minneapolis, many for the Wisconsin Alliance for Arts Education, exposed thousands of students to experiences in dance, theatre, music, and art. The trips, always paired with first class hotel accommodations and interesting restaurants, focused on education first and entertainment second. Educational packets prepared students for the shows and workshops/lectures with professional artists were featured favorites of the teachers. Teachers felt comfortable working with Passante. He was one of them.
With Passante's retirement in 2007, the business was expanded with a new look... and a new name: Passante Arts Connection. With it comes a new destination: New York; and new clientele: Community groups.
